This summer was the first time I had ever taken the train, the Polar Bear Express, to Moosonee.
There's lots to see along the way: the power dam on the Moose River, left, and the slow growing forests, where fire damage from 25 years ago is still very much in evidence. It was a wonderful, relaxing travel experience.
Take a bush plane tour with us of the Moosonee/Moose Factory and James Bay area. This photo of the bridges, water tower and train was taken on our aerial tour with Bushland Airways.

The train tracks run across the top of the town. Beyond there's trees and muskeg. Lots of muskeg and lots of water.
We were invited to spend time in Moosonee this summer by friends who perhaps did not expect us to take them up on their offer of hospitality. The first change in the town we noticed was the new Nothern store, above. The old one had burnt down one evening back in '93 in a spectacular fire.

Left is Muskeg Cabin. Built, owned and operated as a bed and breakfast, by Richard Olden, the cabin is a mix of rustic elements and modern convenience. Richard logged, prepared and placed all the pine for this structure himself—quite a feat and a testament to the character of the man. It was a pleasure to stay there.

Below are the dining and living rooms as well as the kitchen. I found the colour of the timber walls delightful.
Two Bay Tours gives boat and bus tours. The long boat tour goes out to James Bay along Moose River. There is also a tour of Moose Factory Island and the many historic sites.
